My Name: Tiny...
"Naah just kidding, my real name is: Sergio Almada Barrera and I'm 32 years old, (born in 1988) and been climbing more than half my life.
But as you will see my passion has become climbing.
I currently live in Chihuahua City. Although I try to live everywhere doing that I love the most and always trying to keep learning."
Tiny discovered climbing through an invitation to a climbing gym named: ROCA. Some friends from school saw him during lunch breaks that he was always hanging, doing "monkey things" instead of playing soccer or other sports. They say to him: "You could be a good climber..." without knowing that it will become his passion and lifestyle. Once Tiny steped into the climbing gym, it soon became its second home. And that's where he met some of the OldSchool climbers from Chihuahua: Sergio Juárez, Luis "Mormón" Vargas, Sharin Armendaríz. Enrique Quezada, Guillermo Díaz, Daniel Strozzi, Denis Pérez, Enrique Prunés y Luis Soto.
And that's how he went deeper into climbing, starting to develop the technique and strength necessary to overcome each of the goals that have arisen.
Climbing has already become a way of life for Tiny. Most of the time he searches to do and develop projects related to Climbing and Nature. From going to develop an area: bolting new routes, or stablishing firsts ascents on boulders and even looking for new rocks to climb. He's a fan of exploration, but at the same time he's also a fan of writing and documenting the climbs and information about the crags and the outdoors.
From writing and posting about BigWall expeditions, living the vertical life for some days, or just hanging out in the outdoors, there is always something to learn from and to share.
Thanks to that activity and development, we achieve to create a big family made by friends. Sharing our passion for the sake of Nature, and our group growth there is always something that goes beyond just companionship.
Tiny's way of seeing life is always positive and light. He's always trying to take any opportunity; enjoying the weather (good or bad), the sun and the moon regardless of the time. Trying always to live without stress and regrets, always learning from different point of views. He avoids complicating things, trying to solve with the most logical, efficient, and convenient for everyone. Although at time he can be stubborn or a perfectionist, always seeking to understand why and for what, and accepting what's the best for the whole group.
The history of climbing in the State of Chihuahua is not that old, the first climbers date back to the early 90's. And Tiny has been part of the OldSchool group of climbers, as he started young (when he was 12 years old) That being said, it has given the opportunity to develop in various styles of climbing: from Bouldering, Sport Climbing, Traditional Climbing, and Aid Climbing (specially to make first ascents on BigWalls)
He's not into one style, but preferring always to change styles, depending on the season. Spring/Summer is more into Sport Climbing and BigWalls, and during Autumn/Winter there's more places to boulder. (Peñoles being one of the favorite spots)
Tiny is originally from Chihuahua City, in the State of Chihuahua Mexico. And since childhood according to his parents, he has liked to be up and down being quite restless. He's older than her only sister. So he grew up following his father's examples a lot. And like his father, he followed the same interests in school, studying an Electronic Engineer career, getting his degree in 2012. After that he did the same as his father; an MBA degree obtained in 2015. The same studies were beneficial for his development as a professional, while he continued climbing.
On the other hand, from his mother he has inherited values such as punctuality, order and dedication to do what we need to do, even if we like it or not (discipline). Respect and love is something that his Mother has undoubtedly taught him.
